Boingo VP of Int’l Markets Presents at WiFi World Summit

With a focus on achieving competitive differentiation and return on investment (ROI) with next generation Wi-Fi technologies, the 2nd annual WiFi World Summit garnered participation from Wi-Fi ecosystem leaders in London, September 25-26, 2013.

Bjorn Thorngren, Boingo’s Vice President of International Markets, presented a session on Next Generation Hotspot, which will enable seamless Wi-Fi access and roaming, and addressed the importance of roaming relationships in the Next Generation Hotspot/Hotspot 2.0 era.

Now that Apple’s new iOS 7 operating system supports Hotspot 2.0,—a move that could fuel and accelerate Next Generation Hotspot adoption—carriers have incentive to negotiate agreements that will make Wi-Fi roaming as simple and secure as cellular roaming.

During his presentation, Bjorn shared that roaming partner traffic for Boingo has increased a remarkable 33% in the second quarter of 2013 compared to the same period last year.

He also elaborated on how Boingo is paving the way for seamless Wi-Fi offload and roaming with the launch of the world’s first commercial Next Generation Hotspot network at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

If you missed Bjorn’s presentation in London last week, don’t fret! You can catch him live at the 3rd annual Small Cells Global Congress in Berlin, November 5-6, 2013.
