Boingo VP Demystifies Hotspot 2.0 at CEA Industry Forum

Tablets have shifted the digital device landscape.

Designed to inform and connect leaders in the consumer electronics (CE) industry, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) Industry Forum hosted more than 300 of the world’s most innovative and largest technology companies to discuss vital industry trends in San Francisco, CA, October 14-17, 2012.

Christian Gunning, Boingo’s resident technology trend pundit and Vice President of Corporate Communications, participated on the panel, Next Generation Wireless, What You’ll Need to Know, and explained the premise behind some of the most promising and fascinating wireless technologies, including Hotspot 2.0.

As a lead contributor to the Wireless Broadband Alliance’s user experience recommendations for Hotspot 2.0—coupled with the fact that Boingo has been actively involved in Next Generation Hotspot advanced trials—Christian just happens to know a thing or two about Wi-Fi offloading and roaming and is on a mission to simplify access to public Wi-Fi.

If Hotspot 2.0 is Greek to you, here’s the skinny. Also know as Next Generation Hotspot, Hotspot 2.0 is a collaborative initiative between the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA)Wi-Fi Alliance and other industry groups (like the GSMA) that will make Wi-Fi roaming as simple, seamless and secure as cellular roaming.
