The airport journey is now a continuous digital experience that begins the moment a traveler arrives. From rideshare apps to mobile ticketing to streaming high-definition content at the gate, this digital-first journey is powered by essential airport infrastructure: reliable connectivity.

Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), a vital transportation hub for the Los Angeles region, is prioritizing connectivity as it constructs its new 355,000-square-foot Replacement Passenger Terminal. Slated to open in 2026, the terminal is being built from the ground up to support the future of travel. With the world’s biggest stages—the FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games—fast approaching, BUR is preparing to deliver a best-in-class experience to a surge of global travelers.

To meet this moment, BUR tapped Boingo to architect a wireless foundation capable of handling immense digital demand. Boingo is deploying a state-of-the-art converged 5G and Wi-Fi network that includes one of the first airport Wi-Fi 7 deployments in the U.S. This wireless foundation ensures a seamless, high-speed digital experience that follows travelers from the parking structures all the way to the gate and tarmac.

Boingo’s neutral-host Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at BUR is designed to support all major carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. Alongside the DAS, Boingo is deploying Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E to deliver low latency and fast, reliable connectivity throughout the terminal.

Together, these technologies form a converged, neutral host platform that powers airport operations and keeps travelers connected.

  • For passengers, the network supports seamless connectivity from curb to gate, faster speeds in high-traffic areas like TSA and baggage claim, reliable access across major carriers, and strong performance for mobile tickets, streaming, messaging and work on the go.
  • For airport operations, the network enables real-time communication for staff, supports digital systems such as biometric access and digital wayfinding, and provides a flexible platform for automation, safety and future innovation.

With our Replacement Passenger Terminal, we’re building an airport for the future—one that embraces innovation and elevates the passenger experience.
