Creating opportunities for New York’s next generation
For many young people, career inspiration begins with exposure.
A conversation with a mentor, a behind-the-scenes experience or an opportunity to learn directly from industry leaders can open doors and shape future ambitions. That was the goal when Eagle Academy students visited Citi Field for a unique program designed to introduce them to the careers, technologies and leaders shaping the future of sports and entertainment.
Hosted by Boingo Wireless, with the New York Mets and Sports Business Radio, the event brought students together with professionals from across the sports, business and technology communities. The experience offered a firsthand look at the many career paths that exist beyond the playing field—and the skills needed to succeed in them.
As a company deeply rooted in New York, Boingo believes supporting the communities where we live, work and do business means more than delivering connectivity. It also means helping create opportunities for the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers and leaders who will shape the future of our city.
A day designed to inspire
The day began with Eagle Academy students boarding the Boingo Bus for a trip to Citi Field. As they traveled to one of New York’s most recognizable sports venues, excitement built for a day centered on learning and exploration.
Upon arrival, students connected with local business leaders and members of the Mets organization, gaining insight into the diverse range of disciplines required to operate a world-class sports and entertainment destination.
Students attended a live recording of Sports Business Radio, the award-winning podcast hosted by Brian Berger. During the discussion, Mets leaders shared their personal career journeys and discussed the collaboration and innovation that help create memorable experiences for millions of fans each year.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, giving students the opportunity to ask questions about education, career growth, leadership and breaking into competitive industries.

Careers in sports go beyond the field
One of the biggest takeaways from the day was that the sports industry extends beyond what you see on the field.
Every game, concert and live event depends on a team of professionals working behind the scenes to keep operations running smoothly, engage fans, analyze data, support technology systems and more. While players may be the most visible part of a sports organization, countless others help bring the experience to life.
Students learned about opportunities across a wide range of disciplines, including:
- Technology and engineering
- Artificial intelligence and data analytics
- Marketing and fan engagement
- Cybersecurity and IT operations
- Event production and stadium operations
- Business strategy and management
The conversations reinforced an important message: modern sports organizations require talented professionals with diverse skills, experiences and interests.
Whether students are passionate about STEM, business, communications or operations, there are many opportunities to contribute to the success of a team, venue or organization.
For many Eagle Academy students, the experience expanded their understanding of what a future career could look like—and the paths available to get there.

Preparing students for the future of work
As technology continues to transform industries, students also gained valuable perspective on the skills that will become increasingly important in the years ahead.
Mets leaders discussed how artificial intelligence, data analytics and digital technologies are changing how organizations operate, make decisions and engage audiences. The conversation highlighted how rapidly evolving technologies are creating new opportunities and reshaping existing roles across sports, entertainment and other sectors.
For Eagle Academy students, the discussion was about more than technology. It was about understanding the value of curiosity, adaptability and lifelong learning in a constantly evolving world.
Early exposure to industry leaders and emerging technologies helps students connect classroom learning to real-world applications and better understand where their talents and interests can take them.
Supporting the future of New York
Strong communities are built when young people have opportunities to learn, explore and connect with mentors who can help broaden their perspective.
That belief is what made this experience so meaningful. By bringing Eagle Academy students behind the scenes at Citi Field, Boingo, the Mets and Sports Business Radio created an environment where students could see new possibilities, ask questions and learn directly from professionals who have built successful careers.
