Boingo Named “Best Wi-Fi Network Operator” at 2015 Wi-Fi Industry Awards

Boingo Wins Two Wireless Broadband Alliance 2015 Wi-Fi Industry Awards Honoring Groundbreaking Carrier Offload and Military Broadband Deployments

LOS ANGELES – Oct. 19, 2015 – Boingo Wireless (NASDAQ: WIFI), the leading DAS and Wi-Fi provider that serves consumers, carriers and advertisers worldwide, today announced that the company has won two prestigious Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) 2015 Wi-Fi Industry Awards: “Best Wi-Fi Network Operator” and “Best Wi-Fi Service for Vertical Markets” (Military).

“The Boingo team works hard every day to ensure that our customers – whether they’re carriers, venues or consumers – have the best possible connected experiences. We’re thrilled to be recognized by the WBA and global wireless industry leaders for our pioneering efforts in the development and deployment of carrier Wi-Fi and Passpoint technologies, and our network innovations in service of our enlisted military,” said Boingo President Nick Hulse.

“Our ‘Operator’ award win is the culmination of our years of work with industry standards groups, carriers and hardware manufacturers to bring seamless mobile offload to consumers and venue partners, and our ‘Vertical Markets’ win honors our work to keep our military customers connected to the people and the content that they love,” said Boingo Chief Technology Officer Dr. Derek Peterson. “These awards are a testament to our team’s hard work, and trailblazing contributions to the industry.”

“Best Wi-Fi Network Operator” Award Honors Pioneering Carrier Offload and Passpoint Deployments

The “Best Wi-Fi Network Operator” award recognizes Boingo’s launch of the first major carrier Wi-Fi offload relationship, with Sprint. The long-awaited launch of carrier Wi-Fi offload was made possible by Boingo’s extensive lab and in-market testing on millions of Sprint devices, which demonstrated the consumer benefits of effortless authentication onto Boingo Wi-Fi networks.

Leveraging the Sprint Connections Optimizer, nearly 10 million of Sprint’s Android-based devices within proximity of a Boingo hotspot in participating U.S. airports can automatically connect to the network at the fastest speeds available, with no user action required. Sprint customers on iOS 9 devices can also now access Boingo’s “Passpoint Secure” networks, enabling instant, seamless, secure connectivity.

Boingo has been a leading advocate for carrier Wi-Fi and Passpoint standards for more than four years, and was one of the first companies in the world to deploy Passpoint for consumers in 2013.

“Best Wi-Fi Service for Vertical Markets” Recognizes Innovation for the Armed Forces

Boingo’s win in the inaugural “Best Wi-Fi Service for Vertical Markets” category honors the company’s innovative use of technology to serve the enlisted person’s needs.

Boingo has developed a unique suite of products to serve this always-connected, on-the-go audience, including broadband Internet at up to 30 Mbps speeds and a host of broadcast programming options, all available for streaming on mobile devices while on base. Boingo’s military services are portable: customers who sign up on one Boingo-networked base can take their service plan to another, with no account changes necessary.

Boingo’s robust networks feature an innovative design created specifically for the extreme environment of an active duty military base. Through leading edge design utilizing the latest technology, today Boingo is one of the largest providers of high-speed Internet and TV for the U.S. military. To date, Boingo’s military services cover more than 160,000 beds in more than 1,000 buildings at more than 30 bases, including some of the nation’s largest.

Presented at a gala awards dinner at the WBA Wi-Fi Global Congress in San Jose, the 2015 Wi-Fi Industry Awards recognize outstanding achievement in driving key initiatives in the global Wi-Fi ecosystem by operators, vendors and device manufacturers. The awards were judged by a panel of highly distinguished analysts and industry experts including Caroline Gabriel (Maravedis-Rethink), Peter Jarich (Current Analysis), Joe Madden (Mobile Experts), Chris Nicoll (Analysys Mason), Ken Rehbehn (451 Research) and Daryl Schoolar (Ovum).
