Boingo Statement to The Council of the City of New York, et al.

On Wednesday, April 30, 2014, Boingo Wireless sent the following statement to The Council of the City of New York, et al., regarding New York City Council Resolution No. 1954-2013.

Dear Mr. Rodriguez, et al.,

We are writing today in response to your letter of April 16, 2014, regarding New York City Council Resolution No. 1954-2013.

We continue to work closely with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (“Port Authority”) to explore all options for delivering enhanced wireless services that meet the needs of today’s connected traveler at the Port Authority’s three largest airports: New York John F. Kennedy (JFK), LaGuardia (LGA) and Newark Liberty International (EWR) Airports. Boingo has been in discussion with the Port Authority for some time to determine the best way forward in delivering an optimal passenger experience while addressing the very real costs required to do so.

In the interim, Boingo will continue to work closely with sponsors to deliver complimentary access to travelers, while pursuing a long-term solution with the Port Authority. In Q1 2014, more than 55% of all Wi-Fi sessions at these airports were complimentary, through sponsorships from major brands including Amazon Mobile, National Rental Car and Marriott, among many others.

Boingo has frequently offered sponsored Wi-Fi access at the three major New York airports for more than four years. In Q3-Q4 2013, nearly 60% of all Wi-Fi sessions delivered at JFK, LGA and EWR airports were complimentary, via sponsorships secured by Boingo Media, Boingo’s Wi-Fi advertising and sponsorship group.

We thank you for the opportunity to respond to your letter of April 16.
