BOINGO WIRELESS CELEBRATES EARTH DAY

From Boingo Office Initiatives to Boingo Working With Earth Day Network, Boingo Does Its Part for Earth Day

– To celebrate Earth Day, Boingo Wireless, which provides access to the largest network of Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide, is donating 10 percent of the purchase of Boingo Unlimited accounts at its owned-and-operated U.S. airport locations to Earth Day Network. Beyond Earth Day Network donations, the company has expanded its internal green initiatives to continue to decrease the company's overall carbon footprint.

Money Boingo raises through the sale of new Boingo Unlimited accounts from today through April 23 will be donated to Earth Day Network, a non-profit organization devoted to broadening, diversifying and mobilizing the environmental movement worldwide, in order to promote a healthy, sustainable environment.

Boingo is also working with Bonneville-owned radio stations in Los Angeles, where Boingo Wireless is headquartered, Seattle, where Boingo operates the WSDOT Ferries Division Wi-Fi network, and Salt Lake City, where Boingo operates the Salt City Airport Wi-Fi network, to promote Boingo's work with Earth Day Network, as well as those stations donating a portion of station advertising revenue with Boingo.

"As a worldwide service, Boingo is keenly aware of all that we need to do to make the world a better place for ourselves and future generations," said Boingo Wireless CEO and President Dave Hagan. "From our internal programs to reduce waste to our transportation program to working with Earth Day Network, Boingo is always finding ways to reduce, reuse and help out the planet."

"Earth Day Network is honored to have been selected by Boingo Wireless as the recipient of this generous contribution," said Kathleen Rogers, Earth Day Network President. "Corporations can and should be a key player in the transition to the new, green, carbon-free economy, both from an operational standpoint, by becoming more environmentally-responsible, and from a public awareness standpoint, by persuading customers and other stakeholders to adopt a greener lifestyle."

Boingo will also be highlighted on the The Sound LA Web site (http://www.thesoundla.com) and its "Green Room" on how the company works to be environmentally conscious throughout the year.

At the Boingo offices, the green initiatives undertaken the past year and for the coming year include:

  • Installation of motion-sensors in data centers, offices and kitchens to automatically turn off lights in empty rooms
  • Automated thermostats and timed lighting during non-business hours
  • Energy savings initiatives for the data centers
  • Annual "Save the Bay" employee outing to clean up Los Angeles beaches
  • Monthly alternative transportation fund for employees who walk, bike or take public transportation to the offices
  • Discontinuation of plastic water bottles in offices, and new recycling programs
