Do I need Boingo software to connect?
Using Boingo software makes the connection process a breeze. Although it's not necessary to use the Boingo software "GoBoingo", we strongly recommend it.
Most Boingo locations allow members to log on at the hotspot web page. Due to the variety in the layout of these locations' pages, and depending on the location, the login process may differ, GoBoingo bypasses this web page login process and automatically logs you on at ALL Boingo locations.
But GoBoingo does more than just allow you to log onto the worldwide Boingo network, GoBoingo alerts you to the presence of a Boingo Wi-Fi signal. So if you're at a Boingo location, GoBoingo simply pops up and asks if you want to log in. And by the way, it's completely FREE.

^ back to topCan I send and receive e-mails using Boingo?
When using any e-mail client (e.g. Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora) at Boingo locations, you may receive, but not send e-mail. In order to minimize the propagation of SPAM e-mails, Boingo requires that you set your e-mail client to authenticate to your ISPs outgoing SMTP server. You may need to contact your ISP to verify that authentication is supported on their SMTP server. Many ISPs provide a webmail interface which you can use on the Boingo network to access (send and receive) your e-mail.
^ back to topWhy am I unable to connect to the network signal I see in my Boingo window?
There are two reasons you may not be able to connect.
- Signal strength may be too weak from where you are: Signal strength from the wireless access point may not be strong enough to allow reliable connections. Not every access point provides a signal that is strong enough for customers to connect from a substantial distance. Physical location of the access point also plays a role determining how close you must be for a reliable connection. The wireless access point uses a radio antenna similar to that used by a mobile phone. The available signal strength and associated connection reliability is directly related to your position relative to the access point antenna. The closer you are and the less obstructed your line of vision to the access point, the higher your chances of connection will be. Watch the signal strength indicator at the bottom of the available signals window to tell you when the signal strength is at its strongest.
- It may not be a publicly available access point: The Boingo software locates local wireless signals and finds not only Boingo signals, but other wireless networks as well. Not every network detected by the software will be a publicly available network. Many companies use wireless networking within their corporate buildings or campuses, but do not grant public access. Many of these networks will not have recognizable names associated with them. This means that you might see a network, but you will not be able to tell who is operating it. In this case you will not be able to successfully make a connection and must search for a public access network.
