Boingo Wireless ENABLES HIGH-SPEED WIRELESS ACCESS AT CTIA

Orlando's Convention Center to Include Over One Million Sq. Ft. of Wi-Fi Network; Wi-Fi Cards 80% Off at Show with Boingo™ Sign-up

ORLANDO, Fla., March 13, 2002 - Boingo Wireless and the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) today announced that the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., will be a Boingo Wireless Wi-Fi Hot Spot during the CTIA WIRELESS 2002 conference, March 18-20, 2002. CTIA believes this is the largest commercial Wi-Fi network deployed in a single location in the U.S.

Boingo also announced that CTIA attendees who sign up for Boingo at the show can purchase an Avaya Wireless Gold Wi-Fi card for $25 - 80% off retail price. The card - and Boingo account - can be used at more than 500 Boingo locations following the show, as well as with home and office Wi-Fi networks.

Wi-Fi Show Access
Over one million square feet of the Convention Center will be accessible to show attendees through a Boingo Wireless account. Attendees can log on through the Boingo Software (available on CD or through download from the show network splash page) or through a gateway login page designed specifically for the show. Special service rates will be available at CTIA for new subscribers:

  • Show attendees can purchase three days of high-speed wireless connectivity at CTIA for the price of two ($15.90 for three days of access = 2 x $7.95 per day);
  • New Boingo Pro members ($24.95 per month which includes 10 connect days) get four free connect days during CTIA with their subscription and have the option to buy a discounted Wi-Fi card (see below).

  • Attendees using Macintosh and PDA computers can log in to the network by setting their SSID to "SmarTCitY" and opening a Web browser. The CTIA Boingo Wireless network will present a signup and login page to enable all show attendees to connect to the ultra-high-speed wireless service, regardless of device or operating system.

    The network is a joint-deployment enabled by Boingo Wireless; the CTIA; the Orange County Convention Center and its Internet Services provider, Smart City; and Nomadix, which is demonstrating the new features in its Universal Subscriber Gateway that enable any network operator to turn a Wi-Fi network into a Boingo Wireless commercial Hot Spot.

    In addition to the Orange County Convention Center, there are 14 hotels in Orlando that have Boingo coverage so CTIA attendees can access Boingo's ultra-high-speed wireless service when away from CTIA as well. Check the Boingo list of locations at http://www.boingo.com for details about specific locations.

    Discounted Avaya Cards
    During CTIA, attendees who sign up for three months of Boingo Pro service ($24.95 per month) can purchase an Avaya Wireless Gold Wi-Fi card for $25 ($125 value). Attendees can stop by the Boingo booth near registration on level 2 or visit the Avaya booth #4946 to sign up and receive their card.

    Avaya Wireless, Agere ORiNOCO, Lucent WaveLAN, and Cisco Aironet cards are compatible with Boingo Software on Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Windows 98SE. Attendees using Windows XP can use Boingo Software with nearly 30 cards, as long as they've updated their drivers to the latest available version. Check the Boingo website at http://www.boingo.com/winxp_cards.html to verify whether your card is Boingo-compatible in Windows XP.
