Boingo Adds 1,600+ Hotspots in Japan Via NTT Communications

NTT Com’s Wi-Fi Customers Also Have Access to Boingo’s Neutral Host Airports

– Boingo Wireless, the world's largest network of Wi-Fi hotspots, is adding more than 1,600 additional locations in Japan through a roaming partnership with NTT Communications, one of the largest Wi-Fi providers in Asia. This brings Boingo’s total footprint to well over 6,500 hotspots in Japan and 125,000 hotspots around the world.

The addition of the hotspots to the Boingo® Roaming Network maximizes Boingo's reach in Japan and enables people to get online with their smartphones or laptop computers in the most popular locations across the country.

Boingo customers can get online at NTT Communications Wi-Fi locations immediately; select Boingo® Platform Service Partners that wholesale Boingo’s global WiFi access products, and their customers, will gain access in the future.

NTT Communications locations include selected venues of: New Otani and Prince Hotels; restaurants such as Global-Dining chains; coffee shops like PRONTO and Tully’s Coffee; as well as retailers, business facilities, libraries, airports, and train stations along the country’s major business backbone.

“The addition of NTT Communications’ extensive Wi-Fi network means that Boingo customers now have Internet access to just about every commercial hotspot in Japan,” said Allen Pan, director of Asia for Boingo Wireless. “Given the quality of their network and the premium locations they control, this is an exceptional addition for Boingo.”

In addition, select NTT Communications Wi-Fi customers are also able to access Boingo's owned and operated neutral host airport network, which includes the top airports in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, as well as the WSDOT Ferries Division Wi-Fi network in the Seattle, Washington area.

"NTT Communications and Boingo share the same standard for high-quality, high-speed Wi-Fi service, which is why this is such a natural collaboration,” said Ryuichi Hara, General Manager and Vice President, Business Network Services Division, NTT Communications. "Our customers will be able to have the same seamless Internet experience they know from NTT Communications on the Boingo network, while Boingo customers can rely on NTT Communications’ fast connections."

Boingo gives consumers the best choice of Wi-Fi hotspots by combining more than 125,000 locations from 167 leading Wi-Fi operators into a single worldwide network spanning 103 countries.

Both Boingo and NTT Communications are members of the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), an industry alliance of wireless broadband industry players that facilitates global Wi-Fi roaming amongst its members. As a result of roaming agreements such as the one between Boingo and NTT Communications, end-users benefit from the ability to access the larger, collective footprint.
