Boingo Launches Worldwide Wi-Fi Service for Mobile Phones and Devices
Boingo Mobile Gives Wi-Fi Device and Dual Mode Phone Users Unlimited Wi-Fi Access at Tens of Thousands of Hot Spots across the Globe for Only $7.95 per Month
3GSM World Congress, Barcelona, Spain – February 12th, 2007 – Boingo Wireless Inc., the world’s leading wholesale network aggregator and operator of neutral-host Wi-Fi networks, today announced Boingo Mobile, the first global Wi-Fi Internet service designed for Wi-Fi enabled mobile phones and devices.
Boingo Mobile lets users enjoy the Internet capabilities built into their handsets over true broadband speeds in Boingo’s hotspots around the world. For a monthly flat rate of USD $7.95, Boingo Mobile subscribers get high-speed Internet access where they need it the most — airports, hotels, restaurants and convention centers worldwide.
The Boingo Mobile software – a free download that enables automatic connection and roaming authentication to more than 150 different Wi-Fi network operators around the world – is currently available for Windows Mobile 5.0-based Smartphones or Pocket PC devices. Users can check the compatibility of their device and download the Boingo Mobile software from http://mobile.boingo.com/download/.
“Wi-Fi enabled phones just became a whole lot more useful,” said Tim Farrell, Boingo vice president for product management & professional services. “With the worldwide access of Boingo Mobile, subscribers can use their phones for the applications that make them more productive, let them stay in touch or just have a little more fun.”
Boingo Mobile subscribers can use the Wi-Fi access for all Internet-enabled services and applications they have on their phones — making calls with wireless VoIP, receiving push email, sending SMS messages, watching online news or video, performing photo or video uploads and downloads, searching the Internet, accessing Intranet services, as well as other network-based uses.
The service is easy to set up and delivers instant connectivity at tens of thousands of hotspots in more than 60 countries around the globe including France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The new Boingo Mobile service is also currently available to users of Belkin’s Wi-Fi Phone for Skype. In a separate announcement today, the company announced a demonstration at the Forum Nokia PRO booth at 3GSM that will showcase the company’s Symbian-based S60 phones using Boingo Mobile Wi-Fi access.
Boingo anticipates additional Wi-Fi enabled devices – mobile/cellular handsets, VoIP phones, mobile gaming consoles, MP3 players and digital cameras – will be available with integrated Boingo Mobile service in the near future.
