October is one of my favorite months with the Exceeding Expectations kids. As you all know, our top priority for the kids is, and always will be, education. That said, every October we participate in two athletic events that I feel are significant in laying the groundwork necessary for them to be successful in the academic world and in their adult lives. The first of these events is the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) triathlon, aptly called “The Best Day in Triathlon.” Here’s a brief overview from their website: “In 1994, three friends started a triathlon fundraiser to help one man regain his independence after a tragic accident left him a quadriplegic. From one came many, and Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) took root in the belief that sports and an active lifestyle are a pathway to more in life. Since that fundraiser 25 years ago, CAF has been committed to breaking the financial barrier that individuals with physical challenges face to participate in sports and live a healthy and active lifestyle.” Participating alongside challenged athletes in a very tough race gives our kids an additional perspective on their own lives. The racers on the course with them face obstacles that they

EE’s annual Swimathon/Runathon event took place on the morning of Sunday, January 20th, in Loma Linda and San Bernardino. Twenty kids swam as many laps as they could in an hour, and twenty ran as far as they could in thirty minutes. Twelve of the kids did both events. Despite a chilly start in the low 40s, it warmed up quickly and everyone had a terrific time. Continue reading
Congratulations to Nashville International Airport (BNA) for winning the 2011 Richard A. Griesbach Award of Excellence, an annual ACI-NA accolade that recognizes the best overall airport concessions program! Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) evaluates airports in Canada and the U.S. across seven concession categories, including food, retail, and customer service. There are three winners in each category but only one victor for the best overall airport concessions program. We’re thrilled for Nashville Airport — and not just because Boingo manages the Wi-Fi network there. Through our frequent visits to BNA, we’ve experienced for ourselves the all-around awesomeness of the airport’s concessions. We’ve indulged in Memphis-style barbecue at the award-winning Neely’s Bar-B-Que, and we’ve sipped on cocktails during music performances at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. Live music, in fact, is what makes BNA extra-special: their “Arts at the Airport” program features a full calendar of live jazz, blues, and good ole country music. The program also showcases a revolving collection of visual arts. Additional nice touches are BNA’s health clinic and green initiatives. We could spend all day exploring the gems at Nashville Airport. Congratulations, BNA team! We’re honored to manage your Wi-Fi service. P.S. If your gadgets are low on battery power, Boingo’s got you covered with charging stations

We’re pleased to announce the results of the Boingo Hotspots and Snaphots Photo Contest. Our judges — professional photographers Leah and Deb — had a very difficult time selecting the winning entries. There were so many good ones! Thanks to everyone who participated. Winner for the Boingo Hotspots category: “Fabulous Fourth of July at the Home Depot” by Andrew Preikschat Commentary from our (professional photographer) judges: “This is compositionally a really great image, with the rows of people at the bottom and the inclusion of the “La Galaxy Soccer” sign. And of course, this is a great place for a Wi-Fi hotspot.” Winner for the Travel category: “Myanmar Light,” by David Lazarus Commentary from our (professional photographer) judges: “This photograph is just breathtaking – the light, the composition, the processing, and the content (perfect for travel). We love that the photographer chose to light the cattle versus the man. This really is an incredible photograph.” Winner for the Happiness category: “On the Lap of Grandpa,” by Abhijit Dey Commentary from our (professional photographer) judges: “This category was really hard to narrow down to just one image, and we went back and forth many times. In the end, we felt this
