October is one of my favorite months with the Exceeding Expectations kids.  As you all know, our top priority for the kids is, and always will be, education. That said, every October we participate in two athletic events that I feel are significant in laying the groundwork necessary for them to be successful in the academic world and in their adult lives.  The first of these events is the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) triathlon, aptly called “The Best Day in Triathlon.” Here’s a brief overview from their website:  “In 1994, three friends started a triathlon fundraiser to help one man regain his independence after a tragic accident left him a quadriplegic. From one came many, and Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) took root in the belief that sports and an active lifestyle are a pathway to more in life. Since that fundraiser 25 years ago, CAF has been committed to breaking the financial barrier that individuals with physical challenges face to participate in sports and live a healthy and active lifestyle.”  Participating alongside challenged athletes in a very tough race gives our kids an additional perspective on their own lives. The racers on the course with them face obstacles that they

Bestselling Author Karen Essex Travels With Dracula

I’ve read every book by historical fiction author Karen Essex and never thought I’d have the opportunity to connect with her. As it turns out, Karen travels all over the world and relies on Boingo Wireless to keep her online! So thanks to Boingo, I had the chance to chat with the bestselling author about two favorite topics, books and travel.  As Karen explains, traveling is an important part of her book writing process: “As an historical novelist, nothing informs my work like travel.  I love to walk in my characters’ footsteps, breathing in the air that they breathed, literally sharing molecules with them.” I had just finished reading Karen’s latest masterpiece, Dracula in Love, and was fascinatedby the fact that Karen had visited the novel’s various settings, places that had lived vividly in my imagination during an all-consuming three-day read. Luckily, Karen obliged me with an interview. Check out the Q and A below with Karen Essex and ask her your own questions in the comments section. The first twenty-five folks to post a note to Karen will receive a free copy of Dracula in Love. What inspired you to write the literary thriller Dracula in Love? I’d first read Bram Stoker’s Dracula when I was fifteen

Denise and Mark Thomas are on pace to go down in Guinness World Record history. Their feat? They have exchanged wedding vows eighty-five times at eight-five different locations around the world — and all within the span of six months. Now that’s commitment! Denise, a native Australian, met Englishman Mark while she was working in London. The couple fell in love and decided to tie the knot…in a very unconventional way. Denise and Mark were chosen out of 30,000 couple-applicants by travel company Runaway Bride and Groom to “test” wedding and honeymoon locations around the world. As The Official Honeymooners, Denise and Mark weren’t just drinking champagne and feeding each other cake for six months straight. The couple’s official job was to document their experiences at each of the wedding and honeymoon venues. This meant daily blog updates, hundreds of photos, hours of video and countless tweets — not to mention the various challenges they faced navigating their way through unfamiliar languages and cultures. Since the special couple depended on constant Internet connectivity to do their  job, the Boingo team reached out to them early in their nuptial adventures and donated Boingo accounts. We’re thrilled to have been a part
