Dave Graveline of “Into Tomorrow” Interviews CEO Dave Hagan at CES 2012 [Video]

According to Dave Graveline of “Into Tomorrow,” “Boingo saves the day!” Graveline, an award-winning broadcaster covering technology, has been a longtime Boingo member since the days when we had just over 10,000 hotspots. In the video above, Graveline interviews Boingo CEO Dave Hagan on the company’s progress over the last decade — from the growth of our Wi-Fi ecosystem, the apps we’ve built for easy online access, the Wi-Fi operator partnerships we’ve forged, to how we’ve met the insatiable demand for Internet bandwidth on mobile devices.

Watch the video to take a walk down memory lane with Boingo and hear CEO Dave Hagan discuss his vision for the company going forward. We’re especially charmed that Dave Graveline is such a fan of Boingo Wi-Fi. Our favorite Graveline quote:

“Travel requires not just Wi-Fi; it requires Boingo.”

A Playlist of City-Themed Tunes, Created By The Boingo Community

In celebration of the new year and the travel adventures ahead, we asked the Boingo Facebook community to suggest songs entitled with cities. We compiled the great suggestions into a playlist on our YouTube channel. We limited the playlist to one song per city so that additional songs can be added to represent as many worldwide cities as possible. That means we’d love suggestions from YOU! Surely, you must know a city-themed song or two not yet on the playlist.

We hope these city-themed songs spirit you away, and we wish you many happy travels in 2012 and beyond.

Nashville Airport Wins 2011 Best Airport Concessions Program — Hooray!

Congratulations to Nashville International Airport (BNA) for winning the 2011 Richard A. Griesbach Award of Excellence, an annual ACI-NA accolade that recognizes the best overall airport concessions program! Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) evaluates airports in Canada and the U.S. across seven concession categories, including food, retail, and customer service. There are three winners in each category but only one victor for the best overall airport concessions program.

We’re thrilled for Nashville Airport — and not just because Boingo manages the Wi-Fi network there. Through our frequent visits to BNA, we’ve experienced for ourselves the all-around awesomeness of the airport’s concessions. We’ve indulged in Memphis-style barbecue at the award-winning Neely’s Bar-B-Que, and we’ve sipped on cocktails during music performances at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. Live music, in fact, is what makes BNA extra-special: their “Arts at the Airport” program features a full calendar of live jazz, blues, and good ole country music. The program also showcases a revolving collection of visual arts. Additional nice touches are BNA’s health clinic and green initiatives.

We could spend all day exploring the gems at Nashville Airport. Congratulations, BNA…

Carrie Finley-Bajak Cruises the Sea Like Mighty Aphrodite

Carrie Finley-Bajak’s goal is to visit every continent before she turns fifty years-old. Since she has always had an affinity for the ocean, cruise ships are her chosen mode of transportation. According to Carrie, cruises “offer a combination of adventure and a touch of elegance.” She shares her nautical experiences on her travel blog, Cruise Buzz.

We caught up with Carrie, a Boingo member, at BlogWorld LA 2011 and learned plenty of valuable tips for traveling by sea. Check out Carrie’s top three tips below for booking the perfect cruise vacation. Also be sure to follow her on Twitter (@CruiseBuzz) to get regular updates on her reviews and adventures.

1. Cruise Myth Busters
Some misconceptions about cruising are: the world is flat, the ship is to crowded, a person will get sea sick, the cabins are small, there is nothing to do, all you do is eat. All false.

2. Get It Right The First Time
The number one prerequisite for a potential cruise passenger is a love for the sea. If the idea of sailing on the wide-open ocean on a ship sounds like fun, then I would suggest taking…

8 Adventures on the Island of Kauai

I recently vacationed on Kauai, the fourth largest of the Hawaiian islands. The island — with its waterfalls, canyons, rainforests, caves and secret beaches at every turn — is a nature lover’s paradise. Since I’ve had the pleasure of multiple visits to the “Garden Isle,” I’ve compiled below my top adventures on Kauai. Also, watch the video above for a visual feast of Kauai.

What’s your favorite Hawaiian island, and what are your recommendations for activities there?

1. Take a Hike

According to travel website GoHawaii, 90% of Kauai is inaccessible by road. That’s why hiking is the penultimate activity on Kauai. There are a seemingly endless number of trails of varying distances and difficulty. I have frequently stumbled upon deserted beaches, deep canyons, and waterfalls of all sizes. You’ll encounter stunning scenery on any hike you choose but a must-see is Waimea Canyon on the west side of the island.

2. Go Kayaking

Rent single or double kayaks and paddle through breathtaking scenery accessible only by boat. I rented kayaks through a tour group led by a knowledgeable guide. We paddled down a river, docked our kayaks, and then hiked to a massive waterfall and watering hole. Lunch was…
