Well, we’ve got just the thing, because Boingo’s fastest tier delivers speeds faster than the average home broadband experience! Cherie Gruenfeld, Boingo’s official butt-kicker, set the bar high at the 2015 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, not just for herself, but others that will follow. At 71 years young, she made history as she set a new course record for her age group, the third time Cherie has laid down a course record in Kona. It was also her 13th win for her age group at IRONMAN. It’s no wonder that USA Triathlon (USAT) awarded Cherie the title of Grandmaster of the Year for 2015.

Life as a Boingo Intern: Part 4

This guest post is authored by Jeremy Mintz, Boingo’s summer marketing intern and Junior at Tulane University. To tell you the truth, I was a little worried. Never have I taken on responsibility like this before. But while I write in sadness as my internship comes to a close, I am happy to report that I have truly come a long way. I have learned so much this summer at Boingo, not only about marketing and the workplace in general, but about myself. Aside from individual projects and assignments that I’ve gained tremendous experience from, perhaps the most captivating part has been witnessing how the business comes together through meticulous collaboration and teamwork. A prime example of this was the Hackathon, a marathon style event that saw engineers team up with marketers and HR specialists join forces with finance gurus in an attempt to create an idea that could catapult the business forward. I was able to be a part of it by acting as an ambassador, along with Spencer Johnson, with whom I forged a friendship throughout the event that kept us at the office well beyond normal work hours. Although I did not contribute to a team, I

Life as a Boingo Intern: Part 3

This guest post is authored by Jeremy Mintz, Boingo’s summer marketing intern and Junior at Tulane University. It’s now the end of week 9 and I am having mixed feelings about my internship coming to an end in three weeks. On one hand, I am looking forward to going back to New Orleans and seeing my friends. But on the other hand, I am sad to leave Boingo, a place that I have come to know and love over the past two months. The fun and energetic vibe that exists within these four walls is truly contagious and conducive to success. Never did I think that coming to work every day would bring me so much joy. Waking up routinely for work is without a doubt better than waking up routinely for school. But then again, maybe Boingo has just spoiled me and I am in for a culture shock when I next return to the workforce.

Life as a Boingo Intern: Part 2

This guest post is authored by Jeremy Mintz, Boingo’s summer marketing intern and Junior at Tulane University. It’s now week seven and I’m happy to report that I’m fully integrated and settled in. Now even more so than before, I feel like a valued member of the marketing team. Being immersed in meaningful projects, sitting in on important meetings, going out for drinks with the marketing department (and ordering water because the drinking age is still 21 for some odd reason), and even taking part in photo shoots, I have nothing but positive experiences to share.

Life as a Boingo Intern: Part 1

This guest post is authored by Jeremy Mintz, Boingo’s summer marketing intern and Junior at Tulane University. It’s true. As the intern, I’m the low man on the totem pole. But don’t let that fool you. In just my third week at Boingo, I feel just as valued as any other employee. From the first day of work I have felt welcomed and wanted. Everybody was quick to let me know that if I needed anything, they were there to help.

What IS Boingo, Anyway?

I have a confession to make. I like to chat it up. So when I was vacationing with my family last week in Washington DC and someone struck up a conversation, I didn’t shy away. While I was standing in a restaurant waiting for a table, I was mistaken for a grad student as there happened to be an MBA mixer going on that evening. Even though my cover was quickly blown when my 9 year old asked me when we were going to be seated (again), the student and I kept talking. He asked me about what it was like to be a “grown up” and about my line of work. After I convinced him to never grow up, I told him about my career in marketing and about Boingo. He said Boingo sounded familiar, so I took this golden opportunity to evangelize! I asked him what he knew about Boingo and he said, “Is it Wi-Fi in airports?” That’s usually the response most people give – and for good reason. Boingo operates the Wi-Fi network at more than 70 major airports worldwide. In fact, 60% of all North American passenger traffic goes through an airport where Boingo runs

Culture and Tech Blended

The 2015 SXSW Festival and Conference in Austin, TX has come to a close. For those cave dwellers out there who may not have heard, SXSW (meaning “South by Southwest”) is a series of interactive meetings and events focused on emerging technologies, film and musical entertainment. Over the last couple of weeks, attendees have been treated to presentations and exhibits with topics ranging from new media and entertainment, to advancements in wearable devices and health monitoring tech. Basically, it’s the only place on earth where it would make sense to find Snoop Dogg mixing with robots. This year, the focus was heavily centered around wearable technology and Artificial Intelligence. There was even a debate as to whether advances in AI could be too much of a good thing. Before we tell you our favorite from the event, here are some of the major topics covered at SXSW 2015: It’s All About the Self:  Live streaming apps: Meerkat, Periscope, Teleparty and Stre.am were all big hits. It’s all about taking the selfie to the next level with streaming video. Also featured: Selfie sticks, GIF photo booths, and a bunch of people roaming around taking pictures of themselves. Robotics: Prosthetics: Advances in robotics have made way for prosthetics with almost fully functional
