Life as a Boingo Intern: Part 3

This guest post is authored by Jeremy Mintz, Boingo’s summer marketing intern and Junior at Tulane University.

It’s now the end of week 9 and I am having mixed feelings about my internship coming to an end in three weeks. On one hand, I am looking forward to going back to New Orleans and seeing my friends. But on the other hand, I am sad to leave Boingo, a place that I have come to know and love over the past two months. The fun and energetic vibe that exists within these four walls is truly contagious and conducive to success. Never did I think that coming to work every day would bring me so much joy. Waking up routinely for work is without a doubt better than waking up routinely for school. But then again, maybe Boingo has just spoiled me and I am in for a culture shock when I next return to the workforce.

Perhaps the most gratifying part of my experience here has been the relationships that I have made so far. I must admit that on my first day, I was a little intimidated by being the youngest and newest worker in the department. I didn’t even know the first thing about marketing. But now, I am fully comfortable at Boingo. From the jokes I share with Jay and Travis, to the food ordering I bond over with Andrew and Lauren, to the hard work I do with Julie and Katie, to the acceptance that everyone else has shown me, I could not be happier with the group of people that I am surrounded by each day.

My most recent highlight has been working on a corporate recruiting video with Lauren. Last week, after much planning and anticipation, we hosted a nine-person production crew to film a video showcasing our beautiful office space featuring our most attractive workers (AKA everyone). We are now in the post-production phase and the final product will be amazing, but not without heavy scrutiny as to who is to be featured in each shot, what music will be played in the video, what shots to keep and what to cut, and much more. It was also a wonderful learning experience collaborating with Creative Rebellion, the production company that worked with us. It was interesting to get the fresh perspective of an outside professional, as we already had an internal vision of what the project would look like. As the final edits are being made, both our internal and their external vision will come together to produce a stunning video that leaves viewers thinking “Wow, that’s a cool place” or “I want to work there!” I can’t wait for the video to drop. Be sure to check it out on YouTube or LinkedIn when it debuts in early August.

As for the rest of my time here, I am just continuing to help out in any way that I can. Next week, Boingo is putting on a company-wide Hackathon and I am going to be a correspondent, much like a host, for the event along with the Web Systems Engineering intern, Spencer. In between drafting written communications to clients, conducting surveys for our broadband customers, reviewing media ad sales decks, and much more, I am just trying to enjoy the rest of my summer here, continue to establish strong relationships and networks with my coworkers, and soak up as much knowledge and experience as I can. So far, it has been nothing short of inspiring.

Thanks for tuning in,

Jeremy
