We are thrilled to announce that Boingo has been named a nominee for the Wireless Broadband Alliance’s Wi-Fi Industry Award for “Best Next Generation Hotspot Initiative,” for the second year in a row. (Here’s hoping second time is a charm!)
2014 has been a year of bold moves for Boingo. In February, we launched the world’s first, large scale deployment of commercial Next Generation Hotspot networks at 23 airports throughout the U.S., including some of the highest traffic airports like LAX, JFK and LaGuardia. These networks deliver seamless, secure Wi-Fi connections to subscribers with applicable devices and a Passpoint profile installed, getting them connected to fast Wi-Fi before they even pull their device out of their pockets.
Since then, we’ve taken our “Passpoint Secure” Next Generation Hotspot networks international, with the launch of Passpoint at the largest airport in South America, Brazil’s GRU Airport – São Paulo International Airport, and also added some new domestic destinations, including Phoenix Sky Harbor and John Wayne airports in the U.S. southwest.
Beyond launching active Next Generation Hotspot networks for broad consumer use, we are also proud to be a resource for Next Generation Hotspot education. Our Passpoint Secure micro site provides easy to understand information about the benefits of the new technology, and four simple steps to create a Passpoint profile for subscribers on supported devices. If you haven’t checked it out yet, be sure to get your profile and simplify your connection experience!
So excuse our bragging, but we’re pretty proud of our achievements in Next Generation Hotspot roll out this year. We are also proud to be nominated for the WBA Chairman’s Award in the operator category, for our overall contributions to the work areas of the WBA and our work in driving the wireless ecosystem agenda.
While it is truly an honor to be nominated for this prestigious wireless industry award, we’ll be crossing our fingers for a win at the Wi-Fi Industry Awards in San Francisco on October 9!
