Boingo Execs to Present at Airports Council International-North America

North American airports today are a tech trendspotting hotspot. If you sit in one place long enough, you’ll see crowds of travelers checking their smartphones and tablets, and you may even spot an early adopter sporting Google Glass or showing off their new candy-colored iPhone. In fact, you’d probably be hard pressed to find a traveler without a mobile device on hand.

With more mobile devices than people on the planet, more than half of American adults owning a smartphone and more than a third owning a tablet, a new segment of travelers is growing rapidly: the “Digital Elite” traveler. According to a study by MMGY Global, these travelers carry at least two mobile devices (a smartphone and tablet), are significantly more likely to take leisure and last-minute trips, and are looking for more sophisticated content, like interactive maps and mobile coupons as part of their travel experience.

This “Digital Elite” traveler segment has grown 600% in the last two years, and they – along with their single device-toting fellow passengers – are filling airport terminals and consuming airport wireless network bandwidth at a rapid clip.

Busy Airport Check In

How will airports meet the evolving needs of today’s mobile-first traveler? And how will airport networks need to be optimized to meet consumer data demand and support next generation mobile customer services?

Airports Council International (ACI-NA) invited Boingo President Nick Hulse and Boingo VP of airport business development Zack Sterngold to their Annual Conference – their biggest event of the year – to provide expert insights on these pressing industry issues.
