The majority of Americans own a smartphone today (59% according to comScore), and we’re shopping with our trusty mobile companions at a staggering pace.Findings from a recent Ipsos Public Affairs survey revealed some eye-opening stats: more than three in four smartphone and tablet owners use their devices for in-store shopping research, and the figure spikes to nearly nine in ten for the coveted 18-to-34-year-old demographic.
In addition to comparing prices on the spot (65%), Ipsos found that shoppers are using their gadgets to look up product reviews; not surprisingly, seeing positive reviews impacts the purchase process, especially when it comes to electronics, appliances, hotels, restaurants, and even mobile devices.
Despite the sheer number of apps available, consumers prefer the mobile Web (41%) or a combination of Web and app (42%) over just app alone (18%).
