My tip would be: While you are in Barcelona make sure to just walk around, the architecture is so incredible! From the distinct style of Gaudí to the many beautiful modern buildings, there is always something to capture with your eye or camera.

If you visit the Sagrada Familia (which everyone does) walk up the street and visit the Hospital de Sant Pau. It is a UNECO World Heritage Site and a great piece of architecture in its own right.

Tragaluz (Catalonian for “skylight”) is the perfect venue to try a glass of Catalonian rose and observe the lunchtime culture of Barcelona’s upscale businessmen and playboys. Essentially a modernized tableaux of Spanish aristocrats from the 1600s, you’ll see the same thin faces but fewer pointy beards, and in place of velvet pantaloons and starched ruff collars, you’ll see $3,000 bespoke suits.

I had a referral from a friend who wanted to learn more English.  Her “friend’s walking tour” of the old city was great fun and the most memorable part of our trip. We spent a rainy late afternoon/evening exploring her favorite out-of-the way places, dried off at a local café for a coffee, then toured a few churches and finally ended up at a local’s spot for a tapas dinner.  If you’re interested, contact me through my website and I’ll put you in touch with “my friend in Barcelona.”

My #1 travel tip for Barcelona is to be very careful with your valuables. Stay alert and keep tabs on your belongings. The best way to do this is to keep all your valuables in your pockets (best to get a Scottevest Jacket with multiple hidden pockets) and don’t walk the streets with your bags.
