We recently reported that Wi-Fi usage on Black Friday at shopping malls on Boingo’s network was up 185% compared to Friday averages over the previous three months. Similar to its influence on media consumption, communication and social engagement, mobile devices are fundamentally changing the way we shop.
As this Boingo Infographic shows, the lines between bricks and clicks are blurring as shoppers rely on smartphones to make informed buying decisions.
According to the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), over half of smartphone owners have used their devices in a store.
I’m certainly part of that majority and connect to a store’s Wi-Fi whenever I can to look up product reviews and check prices. My smartphone helps me shop with confidence…and more often than not, I leave with a purchase in hand, and my wallet feels a little lighter.
