Boingo CEO Shares Insights with LA Executive Community at Inc. CEO Roundtable

Last week, our president and CEO Dave Hagan joined some rarified C-suite company – including chief executives from ESPN to Edible Arrangements, and celebrated entrepreneurs from Howard Schultz to Russell Simmons – by participating in the Inc. magazine “CEO Roundtable” series.

Moderated by author and executive director of the Inc. Business Owners Council, Lewis Schiff, the Los Angeles CEO Roundtable featured Dave along with Mark Goldstein, president and CEO of Entertainment Partners, and Craig Levra, CEO of Sports Chalet. Designed to provide insights to fellow LA business leaders on the challenges and opportunities in today’s economic climate and look at critical points in business growth cycles, the panel offered a down-to-earth discussion of the panelist’s diverse company business models.

Dave led the lively discussion by sharing Boingo’s journey from venture-backed start-up to publicly traded company with more than 125 partners in more than 100 countries, and provided insight into the strategy and skills that spurred the company’s evolution from the Wi-Fi industry’s first aggregator to a leading manager and operator of Wi-Fi and DAS networks in high-traffic consumer venues worldwide. In a discussion that spanned topics from strategies for growth to business models to the typical workday for an LA CEO, Dave educated the executive audience about the “co-opetition” environment in the wireless industry, and the inherent challenges of an IPO and running a newly public company. He also advised LA executives to always keep learning and always stay open to fresh ideas. Boingo’s growth from a start-up to a public company with an entrepreneurial spirit was deemed a “classic Inc. story” and an example for business leaders by the panel moderator.

In addition to his participation at the Inc. CEO Roundtable event, Dave contributes to the Los Angeles business community as an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization, and was a 2012 nominee for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Greater Los Angeles region. Starting in January 2013, Dave will extend his current work with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) in his new role as a member of the CEA Executive Board. Dave is also an active participant in Boingo’s philanthropic efforts in the Southern California region.
