The statistics are staggering: 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and 70% of women who develop breast cancer have no risk factors in their background.
During October — National Breast Cancer Awareness Month — Boingo is proud to join the fight to prevent breast cancer, and to support the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and its groundbreaking Health of Women Study (HOW). Throughout the month of October, Boingo will help raise awareness and encourage Wi-Fi users to sign up for the study at selected Boingo Wi-Fi hotspots and hotzones, including Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and Houston Intercontinental Airport.
Boingo will also “Act with Love” in support of the HOW study via social media channels all month long. Boingo’s Facebook and Twitter icons will go pink throughout the month, and Boingo followers can receive “Act with Love” pendants and other fun Boingo giveaways as a thank you for participating in this important study.
The Health of Women Study
The HOW study, conducted jointly by The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and the Beckman Institute at the City of Hope, is a first-of-its-kind, international online study for women and men with and without a history of breast cancer to investigate the root causes of the disease, and prevent it before it develops. The study will use online and mobile platforms to rapidly capture more data than ever before about both healthy women and breast cancer survivors via a crowdsourced approach.
Signing up and supporting the HOW study is easy in a participating Boingo hotspot. Wi-Fi users will be greeted with a branded Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation “Act with Love” campaign landing page:
And will be encouraged to sign-up for the study, and spread the word via Facebook and Twitter to other future volunteers. The HOW study will then periodically send online surveys. It’s that easy to support the Foundation’s mission to make breast cancer history.
Other Boingo Corporate Initiatives
When we’re not delivering blazing fast Wi-Fi, Boingo team members are committed to serving the community through our support of the SOVA Food Bank; the Exceeding Expectations program benefitting at-risk youths; the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and many other organizations.
We’re incredibly proud to support the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, and hope you’ll join us in contributing to the important HOW study, the first online breast cancer study of this size and magnitude.
In addition to joining the HOW study, how will you be supporting the fight to prevent and cure breast cancer this month?
