In 2002, Boingo “launched” at DEMO, the Silicon Valley launchpad for new cutting-edge technologies and innovative products. At the time, Boingo was the industry’s first Wi-Fi aggregator with 400 hotspots and some big ideas.
What a difference a decade makes.
In ’02, the laptop was king, the iPhone wasn’t yet on the drawing board at Apple, Friendster was the social network du jour, and “Google” had just been named the most useful word of 2002 by the American Dialect Society. Calling the cultural and technological shift to today’s reality of constant connection via powerful mobile devices seismic is an understatement.
Since its own DEMO launch, Boingo has evolved with the industry and gone from start-up to publicly traded company, offering access to more than 500,000 hotspots worldwide and partnering with the world’s leading airports, quick service restaurants, shopping malls and stadium owners to hook today’s mobile consumers up with the connectivity they crave.
As leader of a successful DEMO alumni company, our CEO Dave Hagan will be sharing his advice on how to navigate the waters from incubator to IPO as a DEMO “Sage” panelist.
