5 Tech and Travel Gifts for Rad Grads

We still remember how we felt after finishing high school, college and graduate school: we were elated and itching to travel, but we were also a little (or a lot) tight on money. Since these are the likely sentiments of most graduates this June, we’ve compiled a graduate gift guide designed to celebrate and support the rad grad.

Do you have any gift suggestions that was a hit with your rad grad? Share your idea with the Boingo community!

1. Apple iPad 2 (starts at $499)
Your rad grad doesn’t need an iPad 2, which is why s/he isn’t likely to buy one. But we’re betting that most rad grads really want an iPad 2. To minimize costs, opt for the lowest-priced option, the Wi-Fi only model. And remind your grad to install the free Boingo app for locating free and Boingo hotspots. Better yet, set up your grad with a Boingo Mobile account for $7.95/month so they can connect at over 325,000 hotspots globally.

2. Samsung Fascinate ($199 with two-year contract via Verizon Wireless)
If your rad grad is in dire need of a phone upgrade, consider one of the hottest Android phones currently in the market: the Samsung Fascinate (check out PC Mag’s rave review here). Specs include: 1 GHz processor, 5 MP camera, 720P video and Wi-Fi. And for the record, this is another Boingo Mobile-compatible device, so your grad can get online and make VoIP calls on the Fascinate at Wi-Fi hotspots.

3. Soundmatters foxL v2.2 Bluetooth Speaker ($199)
This pocket-sized speaker is perfect for grads who don’t leave home without their music. According to Mashable, the speaker emits amazing sound quality. Dimensions: 5.6 inches wide, 9.5-oz.

4. Travel Gift Card (you name the amount)
Your poor grad is probably itching to travel after all those years of study so the gift of travel will surely be welcome. You can buy travel gift cards in varying amounts from plenty of  sites. Check out airlines such as American Airlines, Southwest, or KLM.

5. Luggage (various prices)
Outfit your rad grad with the necessary travel gear. Head over to eBags for a wide selection of all things luggage. For the grad who plans to travel abroad or hike through the woods, check out this North Face backpack for $139.99 or this High Sierra one for $129.99. If your grad needs a weekend-sized pack, consider this eBags backpack for $84.99 or this Eagle Creek one for $209.99. Of course, being a grad signifies an ascension on the ladder to adulthood, so perhaps more sophisticated luggage is the ideal option. We like this Tumi carry-on for $345 and this three-piece Samsonite set for $449.97.
